Complementary Therapists Volunteer
We are looking for skilled, dedicated, and enthusiastic complementary therapists, who have an interest in working within a multi-disciplinary team in a health care setting at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney. In particular we are looking for acupuncturists, massage therapists, and reflexologists.
Skills and qualities we are looking for:
- A professional qualification in your chosen discipline - preferably Level 4 or above. Newly qualified therapists are welcome
- Good listening and communication skills, and an understanding of patients centred care
- The ability to work with a diverse population of people
- Good reflective practice
- Membership of a professional body and professional insurance
- An interest in palliative care
Key tasks include:
- Working one-to-one with patients, their families, and carers, to address their symptoms and issues
- Keeping accurate clinical notes
- Liaising with the Complementary Therapies team and other health professionals in the Hospice to provide a holistic model of care
This role requires you:
- To be 18+
- To be able to supply the details of two referees
- To be willing to apply for an Enhanced Adult DBS certificate with St. Joseph’s Hospice (unless you are subscribed to the Update Service)
- To complete an interview
- To attend a Core training day
- To commit to minimum of 3 hours every week for a minimum of six months active volunteering - weekly attendance is preferable, but fortnightly may be possible.
- To commit to the same shift on a regular basis; Monday to Friday (depending on availability) 10am to 12:30 pm or 1:30pm to 4pm
