This is the central information hub for
Emergency Support Services (ESS)
in the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine (RDKS).

ESS volunteers provide short-term assistance to evacuees affected by an emergency or natural disaster such as fire, flood, landslide or earthquake. This includes access to basic needs such as food, clothing, lodging and other specialized services. The goal of ESS is to help people re-establish themselves as quickly as possible after a disaster.

ESS RDKS is comprised of:

  • Hazeltons ESS – District of New Hazelton, Village of Hazelton and surrounding areas
  • Kitimat ESS – District of Kitimat and surrounding areas
  • Skeena Valley ESS – City of Terrace, Thornhill and surrounding areas
  • Stewart ESS  – District of Stewart and surrounding areas
  • Stikine Region ESS – Dease Lake and surrounding areas

The ESS RDKS Program provides support, training and resources.  We welcome all communities and individuals to get involved.

ESS provides services that include:

  • Helping evacuees with referrals to basic necessities
  • Managing reception centres and group lodging 
  • Working with local businesses, service organizations, and government agencies
  • Supporting one another and other emergency responders
