Volunteer Opportunity: Diver

What we need:  

Are you a certified diver with a passion for marine life? Join our team and dive into a unique underwater experience! With over 1.5 million gallons of water and a vibrant collection of marine life, our tanks offer an exciting environment to explore. As a volunteer, you’ll assist with essential cleaning dives and execute educational dive shows for the public. It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity to interact with aquatic life, support conservation, and inspire visitors from beneath the surface.

What you may do: 

Volunteer divers assist with underwater maintenance and perform dive shows alongside 35,000 live animals that plunge guests into a tour of the world’s underwater ecosystems. By joining the volunteer diving team at Wonders of Wildlife, you can enjoy diving all over the world, right here at home.

  • Assist with essential cleaning dives and execute educational dive shows for the public.
  • Collaborate with several aquatics teams and provide assistance or support where necessary.
  • Interact with guests to help inspire visitors from below the surface.

How this will help: 

Us: 

Volunteer divers assist the Dive Operations and Life Sciences teams with their daily duties. This role helps keep the aquarium tanks and life support systems operating smoothly, which promotes optimal animal health and creates an enjoyable guest experience.

You: 

Volunteers will have the opportunity to explore their passions, discover new interests, and learn new skills within the aquarium – all while sharing in a unique experience for the Midwest region.

Volunteers will be able to keep their dive skills and certification current, while also improving their skills year-round.

Skills & Experience Needed: 

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Open Water Scuba Certification
  • Pass a dive physical
  • First Aid Certification
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • O2 Provider Certification

Availability/Time Commitment:

  • Dive Operations at Wonders of Wildlife take place 7 - 11 am daily. There are limited options for afternoon dives. Most dive operations will be in the mornings and rarely after 1 pm.
  • Divers are required to dive 2 times a month to remain active, which can be completed in the same day. Volunteers self-schedule using the Better Impact app.

Fun Fact about the Department: 

On average, a volunteer diver spends 27 hours underwater per year!
