Programmatic - Citizenship Mock Interview Facilitator

Position Overview:
Help people become US citizens! Citizenship classes will be offered once a week, and we want to provide the tools and knowledge needed to pass the citizenship exam with Citizenship Mock Interviews.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate one-hour mock interviews at the library
- Encourage students in their efforts and be a positive role model
- Review students' citizenship mock interviews and provide appropriate feedback
- Be punctual and professional in class
- Keep attendance records
- Attend training by library staff and maintain ongoing communication with the Citizenship Class Facilitator.

Training/Support Available:
- Orientation and training from library staff
- Access to library resources and citizenship materials
- Continued staff guidance and support throughout the entire series of classes.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Age 18 or older
- Ability to speak, write, and read English with proficiency
- U.S. Citizen, through birth or naturalization
- Strong ambition to serve the community
- Good person-to-person skills: dependable, prompt, patient and flexible, respectful, able to maintain confidentiality
- A willingness to be open to other cultures and ways of thinking
- Basic computer skills
- Fingerprint clearance is required (SJPL will cover the cost)
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of citizenship resources desired but not required
- Prior tutoring or teaching experience preferred but not required
- Speak Spanish or Vietnamese desired but not required
Commitment:
- Meet regularly with staff to assess the program (at least once a week)
- Commitment to a one-hour weekly citizenship mock interview on any day of the week (Mon-Sun) preferably in the afternoons/evenings from 2PM-6PM, for 3 months unless otherwise negotiated in advance.
