Programmatic - ESL Tutor
Help adult ESL learners build reading, writing and English language skills to meet their personal and professional goals! Seeking one on one, small group and small class instruction tutors to support ESL and Adult Literacy learners.
How You Will Make a Difference

Boost confidence and English language competence in program participants

Volunteers are needed to:

Facilitate a safe space for English language learners to build community and improve their English skills

Follow provided curriculum and adapt it to learners' needs

Share information about library services, programs, and use of resources

Commitment/Schedule

Looking for tutors to meet 1-2 times per week with their learner

Tutors and learners coordinate their own meeting schedule.

At least one hour-long session plus preparation time per week for a minimum of 3 months.
A fingerprint background check, at no cost to you, is required.
Volunteers will receive training and support to ensure they are well-prepared for their role.
Prospective volunteers should:
Be 18 years or older

Have experience in working with non-English-speaking adults

Have knowledge and experience in the field of English language learning or a related discipline

Have strong oral communication skills

Be dependable, patient, and flexible
Language Skills

Advanced fluency in English is required.

Proficiency in any other language such as Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Punjab is highly desired but not required

The most spoken languages (other than English) by Hillview Library patrons are Spanish and Vietnamese
Qualifications Required
- Ages 18 and up
- Age Must be at least 18+
- Oral and written communication skills in English Must be at least High
- Skilled in basic internet, email, and Microsoft Office Must be Yes
- Online Orientation for On-site Volunteers Completed Must be Yes
