One time events - Down for the Challenge - Ropes Volunteer 2025

The Salvation Army's, Down for the Challenge fundraising event with Over the Edge offers people the unique opportunity to rappel off of GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.  

As a Ropes Volunteer you will receive extensive training and the opportunity to rappel down GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. A two-day commitment, May 21 and May 22 is required for this volunteer position. 

 

The following are some of the things you will do as a Ropes Volunteer:

 

• Roof: Support Site Safety Supervisor at main rappel, help load participants and coach them over the edge  

• Training: Support Training Manager in training all participants before they go over the edge  

• Staging: Support Staging Manager, help get participants into gear and ready to go on the roof  

• Landing Zone: Belay ropes and assist participants when they finish their rappel

 

Training: The highly trained technical staff at Over The Edge provide all training you will need . Rope Volunteers will be expected to:  

 

1. Watch a 1-hour online video before the event  

2. Attend a 3-hour training session on Media/VIP day May 21 1:00pm-4:00pm

Optional: Stay and help with Media/VIP rappelling 4:00pm - 7:00pm

3. Volunteer all day on event day May 22 

4. Rope volunteers will get to rappel the building as part of their training; time/weather permitting.  

 

Although we prefer individuals who have experience working with rope, such as climbers, cavers, firefighters and SWAT, becoming a rope volunteer is open to anyone with an enthusiastic and safety conscious mindset.
