Internships - Community Outreach Intern (hybrid)

Reports to: Coalition Coordinator

Hours per Week: preferably up to 15

Compensation: Upon completion of the internships, interns will receive a certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation (upon request). If this internship is for academic credits, please provide us with a university point of contact so that we can ensure you receive your credits. 


Summary: Collective Hope Coalition is a community led initiative that seeks to prevent LGBTQ+ suicide by connecting LGBTQ+ people at risk of suicide with life affirming resources. Under the Coalition Coordinator, you will be asked to accomplish tasks that relate to CHC programming, Dallas Hope Charities community engagement, and some administrative work. During your time as an intern, you will have the opportunity to interact with each department coordinator, community leaders, and members of the community who share our mission.

By the end of this internship, we hope that you will walk away with: a better understanding of the inner workings of program management; improved public speaking skill ; the ability to form connections with community leaders in nonprofit and other industries relevant to our work; an increased understanding of networking and how to conduct yourself in a variety of professional settings; more in-depth knowledge community resources (including how to research them and how to refer them to others); event and program planning skills that can be applied to a variety of positions; and a firm grasp of issues impacting low income and LGBTQ communities and community led solutions to these issues; and any other skills or experiences picked up along the way.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with monthly Coalition meetings by researching topic of the month, summarizing information into 4-5 social media posts, finding and securing meeting speakers, typing meeting minutes, and inputting meeting data

  • Assisting with outreach and planning for Suicide Prevention Week events 

  • Assisting with the research and development of our Hopeful Discussions community education program

  • Joining the Coalition Coordinator for DHC outreach events including tabling, presentations, or community workshops.

  • Completing other tasks as assigned

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Proficiency in the following computer software is strongly preferred: Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Hangouts/Zoom, and Canva

  • Strong public speaking and communication skills

  • Resourceful, innovative, and creative thinker 

  • People person that can get along with individuals from all walks of life

  • REQUIRED: Basic knowledge of LGBTQ+ identities and concepts and/or open to learning


Physical Demands: Occasional lifting, standing and sitting for long periods of time. Accommodations can be made upon request.
