Special Events - Harvest Days Volunteer Greeter
Purpose:
Harvest Days Event volunteers welcome and greet visitors in celebration of the bounty of the Fall and provide general support to the event.
Responsibilities:
- Stands or walks in various areas of the Garden and provides information and directions to visitors. May need to provide support in the Honey Tasting Tent (Saturdays only)
- Welcomes performers at Gate 4 and ensures Gate is secured and not left unattended.
Skills, Attitudes, Knowledge Required:
- Friendly and approachable with experience in customer service
- Enthusiasm for nature and the environment
- Moderate to strong English language skills (CLB/LINC 5+)
- Shows initiative, creative problem solving and able to work independently
- Able to stand for 4 or more hours at the time (accommodation can be made if there is a need to take breaks to sit)
- There may be a need for lifting or moving chairs or tables, but it's not required in order to volunteer
Training and Orientation:
- New volunteers must complete the VBGA General Orientation and select Health and Safety Online modules
- Training provided daily at the beginning of shift
Time Commitment:
Volunteers are welcome to sign up for one or more shifts. Shifts occur from Saturday, September 26th to Sunday, October 18th every Saturday and Sunday, plus Monday, October 12th. Morning shift is 10:00am – 1:45pm and afternoon shift is 1:15pm – 4:45pm.
Locations:
VanDusen Garden at 5251 Oak Street, Vancouver V6M 4H1. In Vegetable Garden/Maze area
Supervisory Relationships/liaison: Volunteers will be supported by the Event Liaison and Special Events Coordinator.
Authority/Decision Making: Must be comfortable following guidelines, making decisions, and problem-solving with minimal supervision.
