Cambria/Somerset County CASA (court appointed special advocate) - CASA volunteers
The CASA program is recruiting volunteers from Cambria and Somerset county for the 30 hour spring training class beginning April 9 2011. CASA is a unique program where everyday citizens are trained and then apponted by juvenile court judges to speak up for an abused / neglected child who is involved with Children and Youth Services. CASA is a national program (casaforchildren.org)with volunteers in every state. This is not your ordinary volunteer "job". Being a CASA volunteer requires a commitment of two years. We welcome volunteers from all cultures ,professions, ethnic and educational backgrounds. Prospective volunteers are required to complete a face to face interview, and must submit crimnal , FBI and child abuse background clearances. Volunteers are the "eyes and ears " for juvenile court judge. They get to know the child and family and report the facts they have acquired to the Judge which in turn helps him make better informed decisions regarding rhe children that come before him in court.
