2026 San Diego Community Climate Action Day | Volunteer Interest List

Save the Date. Show Up for San Diego. Take Climate Action.

When:  Saturday, October 3, 2026; 9am - noon
Where: Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve Racho House

12122 Canyonside Park Drive, San Diego, CA 92129

Something big is coming to San Diego.

On Saturday, October 3, individuals, families, friends, students, schools, businesses, faith communities, neighborhood groups, community organizations and volunteers from across the San Diego region will come together at Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve for the 2026 San Diego Community Climate Action Day, a day dedicated to hands-on service, healthier communities, greener spaces and climate action.

And this year, we're bringing even more together.

Community Climate Action Day will join the 4th Annual San Diego County Parks Hike-A-Thon Kickoff for one shared celebration of service, nature, health, wellness and community.

Come With Your People. Or Come Meet Some.

Community Climate Action Day is for everyone who wants to make a difference in San Diego.

Come as an individual or bring your crew:

  • Families and friends
  • Schools, students and campus groups
  • Neighborhood and community groups
  • Companies and employee teams
  • Faith communities and congregations
  • Clubs, associations and service organizations
  • Scout and youth groups
  • Coworkers and professional groups
  • First-time volunteers
  • Experienced environmental stewards
  • Or just you. Come on your own and meet people while doing something meaningful.

Large groups are welcome to express interest, too. As individual projects are finalized, we'll share information about group capacity, ages, accessibility, physical requirements and other details so everyone can find the right way to participate.

Volunteer. Explore. Connect. Celebrate.

The day will begin together at Rancho Los Peñasquitos Ranch House before volunteers head to service projects at locations throughout the Preserve.

Park rangers and event partners are currently developing the final menu of volunteer opportunities. Projects include native habitat restoration, invasive plant removal, native planting, tree planting and maintenance, community garden enhancements, creek and riparian habitat restoration, wildfire resilience projects, edible food recover, and other hands-on climate action activities.

After volunteering, come back together with the community to enjoy:

  • Lunch provided for event-day volunteers
  • An official event T-shirt for volunteers
  • A family-friendly Wellness & Climate Action Resource Fair
  • Opportunities to discover parks, trails, volunteer programs and community resources
  • Activities celebrating nature, wellness and climate action

This isn't just a volunteer shift.

It's a chance to spend a Saturday outdoors, make a visible difference, meet people from across the San Diego region and be part of something much larger than any one project.

Interested? Get on the List.

Specific volunteer projects are still being developed, so you don't need to choose one yet.

Sign up for this Volunteer Interest List and we'll keep you informed as project opportunities and event details are released.

When individual volunteer projects open for registration, you'll be able to learn about each project's location, activities, physical requirements, volunteer capacity and other details before selecting the opportunity that's right for you.

Signing up for this interest list does not register you for a specific service project. You will still need to register for an individual volunteer opportunity once project registration opens.

Whether you're a longtime volunteer, organizing a company service day, bringing your family, getting a school or community group involved, or simply looking for a meaningful way to spend a Saturday, there will be a way to be part of the day.
