3 - Prog: Dog Care and Training Support - Training Helper
Training Helpers go on field trips with staff and dogs or work in our training room to assist with puppy school, chores, and facility maintenance when we have dogs in the office.
If it is not a field trip day, tasks could include:
- Helping set up the space for the day or put things away at the end of the day
- Wrangling dogs, taking them on walks, and helping with basic training
- Helping tidy and clean up the work space or the facility (dishes, lawn mowing, watering the plants)
- Preparing training treats like frozen kongs and puppy ice
We aim to go on field trips with dogs two days a week but won't know in advance which days will be field trips. Anyone signing up for a helper shift should be prepared to be on a field trip on their shift. We always start and end at the office but helpers should expect to be out of the office for most of their shift and be comfortable traveling in a car driven by someone else. Minors on these shifts will need to have parents check in with us before signing up.
Come dressed in layers appropriate for the weather so you can work comfortably indoors or outdoors.
No qualifications are needed, but minors must either be accompanied by an adult or be able to work independently and follow direction well. Shifts will be manually assigned with a preference for helpers who sign up for more shifts and show initiative when working. Assistants who come regularly are able to learn more skills and work independently. That's a huge help to us!
