Lyell McEwin Hospital - ICU Ward
Work with the staff of ICU to ensure that patients and visitors needs are met, and that the experience of staying on the ward is effectively recorded for quality assurance, and improvement for future services. Volunteers are recognised by ICU as a valuable addition to their services, and bring with them knowledge and experience that complements staff skills.
Ward Staff Support:
- Assist ward staff and ward clerk with miscellaneous tasks that may include:
- Preparation of patient composite packs
- Prepare new arrived stock for restocking
- IV packs for MET trolley
- MRSA swab packs
- Control and restock pathology stock
- Restock ward trolleys
- Refill staff fridge with milk supply
- Refill snacks and drinks for ICU fundraising
- Refill paper in photocopier, printers and fax machines
- Binding or laminating
- Restock patient pantry
Patient, Family and Visitor support: -
- Update patient list on arrival and speak to Ward clerk about patient’s visitor restrictions
- Answer door monitor/intercom and seek nurse permission for visitors prior to entry
- Escort visitors to patient bedside
- Restock relative rooms with tissues and brochures
- Deliver surveys to patients on wards after ICU discharge
- Assist nurses with palliative care comfort trolley
Hours
Shifts 9am -2pm and 2pm -6pm Monday to Friday (full or half days available).
Shifts 10am - 1pm and 1pm - 4pm Saturday's & Sunday's
Minimum regular commitment of 1 x 5hr, 4hr or 3hr shift per week.
Free onsite parking available and all training provided.
