Emergency Response
The Lake Country Health Department/Community Health Center (LCHD/CHC) Emergency Management program is charged with the responsibility of being the lead agency in disasters involving public health as well as nuclear, environmental, chemical and biological acts of terrorism
Plans have been developed for emergency preparedness and bioterrorism to allow the Health Department to move very quickly to identify the emergency or disease, its possible source, and to minimize risk to Lake County citizens. These plans include mass medication distribution and mass vaccination capabilities. These responsibilities are possible by working in coordination with our public and private partners in the County. Public education on preparedness is an ongoing and important aspect of the program. Some programs and initiatives exist around topics such as:
- Dispensing Medical Countermeasures during a disaster
- Assistance at a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC)
- Assist the County during Natural Disaster Events
- Community Outreach and Education
As a Medical Reserve Corps member, there are numerous potential topics which medical or non-medical volunteers could provide a valuable resource in educating the community on important health issues. Members could be involved providing information at a festival or fair or could be involved in a specific public health initiative or activity.
