Yookamurra - 2026 Science Alive Adelaide Expo - Support Role
Volunteer Project Description – Science Alive
Project Title: Science Alive Expo
Project description:
Friday August 7 - Sunday August 9 2026
Join us in Adelaide as we attend the Science Alive expo for the second time this year!
This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with a side of AWC that isn’t usually open to volunteers – especially if you’re someone who loves community engagement!
We will have a stall at the expo from Friday August 7 – Sunday August 9 (inclusive), and would love to have some extra hands to help us chat casually with students and families. Last year this event saw 22,041 visitors come through the doors over 3 days, so it is a great opportunity to talk with people about the amazing opportunity to use science for conservation goals! If you’re someone who loves community engagement, science communication, teaching, or just plain old having a chat then this is a great opportunity! You don’t have to be an expert in the field, but a baseline understanding of conservation and the work AWC does would be helpful. Volunteers can be available for as much or as little of the event as you like, whether that be one partial day or the full three days!
Volunteer tasks:
Volunteers will work as a team lead by the Wildlife Educator and other AWC staff to carry out tasks including:
-
Helping with pack up/set down of stall on first and last day
-
Talking with students, teachers, and families about conservation
-
Casual conversations to keep people entertained if staff are busy
-
Covering the stall management for lunch/bathroom breaks for all
Things to be aware of when considering applying for this volunteer role/requirements:
This event will be held at the Adelaide Showgrounds. Parking may be limited.
-
There may be periods where staff are occupied, so a willingness to initiate conversation with students or families may be required.
