AWC Volunteer Project- National Science - Camera Image Labelling

Role - Volunteer Survey Assistant 

Description of project:

AWC has some camera trap datasets that require further species identification for use in a National Feral Cat Research program. The science team process their raw images by identifying the animals and tagging that species to the individual image. Each region processes and tags their images differently, and as a result, some datasets only have a small portion of the total animal images tagged. To help assist the project team, Ecologist Grace Hornstra is requesting the assistance of volunteers to tag the extra animal images in these datasets.

Volunteer Tasks:

Volunteers will carry out tasks at the direction of their AWC Team Leader. Tasks will include learning to use Timelapse software, identifying animal species, and tagging camera trap images with the species name. Requirements are: access to a computer with a standard USB port.

Further details on how to use Timelapse and what level of species tagging is required will be provided along with the images.

Dates: From 01/08/2026 to 20/12/2026 inclusive. These dates are subject to change as agreed between you and your AWC Team Leader.

Role: Volunteer Survey Assistant

Working Hours: expected total hours ~20, completed in own time/to individuals’ discretion

Volunteers will need to bring access to a computer with a standard USB port (volunteering hours will be conducted during volunteers’ personal time)
