Mt Gibson - Mt Gibson Woylie Trapping Survey
Come and join us at Mt Gibson to assist with our Woylie Trapping survey. Woylie reintroductions begin in 2015 at Mt Gibson and following this we continue to monitor this species inside Mt Gibson’s 7,832 ha feral predator-proof fenced area (‘exclosure’). We complete annual cage trapping surveys to obtain a population estimate and to access the health and breeding of individuals.
In March we will completing 2 weeks of woylie trapping. The first week (9th – 13th March) will consist of 5 trapping teams and the second week (16th – 20th March) will consist of 4 trapping teams. Four cage traps will be set in the afternoon at each site along each team’s trap lines and then early the following morning traps will be checked, closed and animals processed. We require 2-3 volunteers for both weeks of trapping.

Volunteer tasks:
Volunteers will work as a team lead by Project Coordinator and AWC Sanctuary staff to carry out tasks including:
- Setting cage traps
- Record Data
- Working at night/ early morning (3am)
- Using GPS devices
- Assist with animal handling and processing under supervision
- Data entry
Things to be aware of when considering applying for this volunteer role/requirements:
- Ability to work at night, early mornings and for long hours
- Ability to work in a remote, shared living space
- Commitment to full date of survey
- Previous trapping experience preferred but not required
AWC Provides:
- Accommodation on site (private room, shared bathroom & kitchen)
