Project Title:            Mallee Cliffs Land Manager Assistant - 2026  

 

Project description and Volunteer tasks:  

 

Volunteers will work as a team lead by Project Coordinator and AWC Sanctuary staff to carry out tasks including.

  • Internal and external fence checks on the Feral Predator free fenced area
  • Assistance with track clearing
  • Checking and topping up water points
  • Checking and Servicing camera’s
  • Weed Management – Not using chemicals
  • Other land management duties as required

 

Things to be aware of when considering applying for this volunteer role/requirements: 

  • Accommodation on site – Remote living. Potentially working and living alone.
  • Physically fit.
  • Understanding of small motor and pumps
  • Undertake a 4x4 driving assessment from the Operations Manager or an appropriate delegate prior to use of AWC vehicles.
  • Must undertake and adhere to site inductions from staff.
  • Experience in Land Management duties preferred but not essential.
  • Must have First Aid Certificate.

 

AWC Provides:

Accommodation on site at Mallee Cliffs during times when rooms are available. 8 Rooms include a single bed, cupboard space, ensuite with shower and toilet and air conditioning. Washing machine facilities, Kitchen facilities along with basic cooking utensils, portable stove, microwave, kettle, sandwich press, toaster, plates, bowels and cutlery.

Starlink Internet is available.

The Operations Base is powered by a generator which volunteers must be inducted into and understand it’s operation.

AWC will also provide PPE including;

  • “SPOT” tracker that must always be on your person when out in the field.
  • Leather gloves, ear protection, rubber gloves, insect repellent, clear eye protection, sunscreen ect.)
  • Volunteers will have access to a set of keys to Open gates, workshop and fuel shed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Volunteers Provide:

You will need to bring with you;

  • Appropriate working attire (enclosed footwear, long trousers, long sleeve shirt, hat, sunglasses/eye protection. Sunscreen can be provided)
  • Food for duration of your stay and adequate water bottle. Local supermarket in Buronga (approx. 40km, drinking water is available at the Operations Base)
  • Linen including bedding, towel, toiletries, personal medications.
  • Please note that we don’t currently have functioning laundry facilities available, we are working to get this up ASAP. Any laundry requirements sourced offsite
  • Head torch
  • If you have any questions about anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.

 

Please note: Please be aware of biosecurity measures before accessing Mallee Cliffs National Park. All vehicles, Caravans, Camper trailers and anything else accompanying the vehicle must be thoroughly washed, and tyres checked for mud, weeds, prickles etc before travelling to the site. Also be aware of and check clothing and footwear that has the potential to transfer weed seeds and prickles.
