The Operations Team at Scotia Wildlife Sanctuary is currently seeking volunteers to help bring the old Tarrara homestead back to life.

We are looking for a range of skills from basic repair and maintenance to electrical and construction assessments.

 

Tasks required for Tarrara:

  • Cleaning
  • Electrical assessments and works with compliance and certificates supplied.
  • Plumbing assessments and works with compliance and certificates supplied
  • General maintenance and repairs

 Opportunities for this position will run from 01/03/25 - 30/11/25 availability for two weeks or more is highly favourable.

Tarrara is a beautiful old homestead located 10 kilometers South-East of Scotias headquarters. Tarrara has not been lived in for any extended period for many years and is in dire need of attention. Tarrara currently does not have electricity or running water and volunteers will be based out of accommodation at Scotias main housing area.

Objectives

Bring Tarrara homestead up to livable conditions and halt the degradation of the site.

Background

Scotia Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the New South Wales-South Australia border and is home to a vast and diverse conservation area. It is home to almost 65,000 hectares of vital habitat consisting of majestic old-growth mallee woodlands and stunning red sand dunes.  

AWC Provides

Facilities include accommodation, cooking and washing facilities, on-site vehicle access, bedding, communication & navigational tools, and Wi-Fi. A small stipend allowance to assist with meals/fuel costs will be offered to volunteers who stay past 2 weeks- please discuss this allowance with the Project Coordinator. 

 Volunteer Provides

Ensure appropriate clothing, food supplies, water bottles, and torches are packed. Own travel to site- access by 4WD vehicle.
