Project Description and Dates

Come and join us at Mt Gibson to assist with Woylie Radiotracking. In April we will be completing a Translocation of Woylies from inside Mt Gibson’s 7,832 ha feral predator-proof fenced area (‘exclosure’) to outside. To monitor the released Woylies we will be fitting up to 30 individuals with VHF collars and then radiotracking them intensely for the first couple of months. We will require 2 volunteers to assist with radiotracking from the 28th April – 9th May.  

Volunteer tasks

 

Volunteers will work as a team lead by the Project Coordinator and AWC Sanctuary staff to carry out tasks including:

  • Radiotracking
  • Record Data
  • Using GPS devices
  • Data entry

Things to be aware of when considering applying for this volunteer role/key requirements: 

  • Ability to work for long hours, possibly needing to walk through tough terrain
  • Ability to work by yourself after being trained  
  • Ability to work in a remote, shared living space
  • Commitment to full date of survey
  • Previous radiotracking experience preferred but not required
  • Manual Drivers license

 

AWC Provides

 

  • Accommodation on site (private room, shared bathroom & kitchen)
  • Head torch
  • Training in radiotracking and post-translocation monitoring
  • Field work survey experience
  • Opportunity to explore the beauty of a remote, conservation-focused sanctuary!

 

 

Volunteers Provide

 

  • Suitable field work attire – closed in shoes, long pants, long shirt, hat, jumper (might get cold)
  • Backpack and large water bottle/ water bladder (2L+ of capacity)
  • Bedding – pillow, sleeping bag, sheets
  • Food
  • Transport to and from Mt Gibson
