Bowra Wildlife Sanctuary - Sanctuary Caretakers

December 2026 to February 2027

We are looking for two volunteers (couples or friends) to Oversee Bowra Wildlife Sanctuary for a 6 week period between December 2026 to February 2027.

Bowra Wildlife Sanctuary is internationally renowned as one of Australia’s most rewarding bird watching destinations.

The area is now protected forever as part of Australia’s national reserve system. This diverse habitat is rich in birdlife and is a stronghold for many threatened and declining bird species.
Bowra is a 14,000 hectare reserve is home to more than 200 bird species, including nine threatened species.

Tasks will include

• In residence property care for a 6 week period
• Maintain the sanctuary campground and homestead lawns and infrastructure.
• Monitor watering systems / clear old fences and vegetation from boundary fences
• Other jobs as arranged with Sanctuary Managers

AWC will provide -

• Accommodation – air conditioned
• Mobile service & Internet – limited
• Tools or equipment for the work.
• All training and equipment provided
• Stipend payment of $80 per week per person

Volunteers will need to Provide -

• Personal vehicle - 4WD
• Current First Aid certificate or be willing to undertake a First Course prior to commencing Caretaking at Bowra. AWC will reimburse the course costs.
• Sun-protective clothing including long pants, long shirt, fully-brimmed sun-hat, comfortable shoes/boots which are suitable for walking and job tasks, water containers for carrying at least 2 litres of water per day.
• Linen, food & any personal items needed for the stay

A volunteer stipend payment will be available at $80 per week per person.
