Costumed Explainers for the Historic Houses

This is a vital role to the visitor experience and we hope a very enjoyable one for volunteers too. Costumed Explainers are equipped to tell the stories of the historic houses and share them with visitors of all ages. This covers the history of the houses and the social history of the time.

You will often have a simple skill that can be done whilst talking to people, which helps to explain the space. The Museum has made historic clothing suitable for the status and era of many of the homes here - training will be provided in this, the social history and skills to explain the site.
