BAKEHOUSE  Explainer

Purpose of role

To bring the Newdigate bakehouse to life by explaining the demonstration carried out by the Baker to our visitors.

 

 

Tasks you might be carrying out

To support bakers by talking to the visitors and serving tasters/selling bread in the Newdigate Bakhouse

To be aware of environmental health considerations, with training provided, as the area serves tasters to the general public.

To assist the baker with beginning and end of day routines for the serving area

 

 

This role would be a great fit if you:

  • Have an interest in the history of food
  • Enjoy speaking to small groups of all ages
  • Enjoy learning new skills as part of a team
  • Have an understanding of the importance of hygiene in food preparation areas and attention to detail in following food handling information.
  • Have a keen interest in history and heritage
  • Are willing to get involved to inspire and delight our visitors

 

 

Considerations:

The nature of this role means that there may be some periods of standing.

 

 

Time Commitment:

This volunteer role is available 7 days a week.

Ideally, volunteers will be available between 10.00am and 5.00pm however, we are happy to accommodate a morning or afternoon shift with notice.

We would greatly appreciate a time commitment of at least 3 hours at a time.

This role will be available on a rota and volunteers can sign up to volunteer once a week or once a month.

 

 

Training

We have a vast array of training to support our volunteers in offering an exceptional visitor experience.

During your induction you will be expected to attend the following training sessions:

  • The Museum in 2020
  • Environmental Health Training
  • Newdigate Bakehouse Training Session
