Optage Hospice

This training is the first step in becoming part of the Presbyterian Homes & Optage Hospice Volunteer Doula Program, where volunteers offer compassionate presence and support to individuals and families during the end-of-life journey.

During the training, you will learn foundational skills to help you feel more comfortable and confident in this role, including communication, emotional support, and understanding the dying process.

After the training, volunteers may have the opportunity to:

• Sit with patients and offer a calm, supportive presence

• Provide companionship to individuals who may not have family nearby

• Support families by simply being present during a difficult time

• Help create a peaceful and dignified environment at the bedside

This role may be a good fit for you if you:

• Feel called to support others during meaningful life moments

• Are a compassionate listener and comfortable with quiet presence

• Respect diverse beliefs, cultures, and end-of-life practices

• Approach this work with empathy and emotional awareness

• Are willing to commit to at least 4 hours per month

You will be supported by our volunteer team throughout your experience, and additional guidance will be available as you begin this work.
