Robotic Surgery Parent & Carer's Working Group: Help shape robotic-assisted surgery at GOSH

GOSH is planning to introduce robotic-assisted surgery. The surgeon controls the robot throughout the operation, and the robot helps the surgeon perform very precise movements.

We have met with the YPF a couple of times and they have named the project: GOSHBotics.

Next, we would like to create a Parent & Carer's Working Group to help us make sure the new service is designed with children and young people in mind.

We also have a Young People's Working Group.

You do not need to know anything about surgery or robots. We want your opinions, questions and ideas to help shape:

  • how we explain robotic-assisted surgery to children and families
  • what information, videos or animations would be most useful
  • what might worry families about robotic-assisted surgery and how we can make it feel less worrying
  • what matters most to families when we evaluate whether the service is working well.

The group will meet online every other month as the programme develops, with opportunities to see the technology, review materials and help us make decisions along the way.

Interested in helping us build robotic-assisted surgery into GOSH? Please come and join our working group.
