  • Willingness to work as part of a team of other volunteers but able to work independently and meet deadlines

Volunteer Department Assistant (London Only)

This Volunteer Position Involves assisting with administrative duties inn the Volunteer Department. Duties may include: 

  • Aid in on-boarding all prospective people looking to volunteer with Habitat
  • Answer general inquiries about habitat volunteer positions
  • Track where prospective volunteers are in the process
  • Follow up with volunteers to help them get properly screened (reference checks, police checks)
  • Help get volunteers signed up for information sessions and first shifts based on interest and matched skills
  • Conduct satisfaction surveys
  • Make scheduling calls for placement for ReStore shifts
  • Aid with fun volunteer recognition initiatives as needed 

 

Qualifications/Experience Necessary:

Build Site: London (Shifts only Monday to Friday)

Volunteers are needed on site for every stage of construction to help build homes for low-income families. Volunteers of all skill levels are needed at different stages, but we are currently in need of  individuals with handy experience in construction

 
Our builds typically operate Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 3pm. Now building in London, Ontario

Middlesex County

 

Build Registration Volunteer (London only)

Volunteers in the Registration role are the first contact many Habitat Build Day volunteers will have when they come on site, and integral part of the health and safety component at the beginning of the day. They assist in the important task of welcoming, registering, directing and tracking anywhere between 10-20 volunteers during their shift.

 

Time Commitment:  Minimum 2 hour shift twice a month during the 4-5 month construction phase.

 

Location:  Habitat Build Site Forbes Street, London Ontario

 

What you need to know:

  • Volunteers are not required to have building experience for this position
  • Minimum shift is 1.5 hours, from 8:30 am – 10:00am, Monday through Friday, with few weekends available
  • Must be able to attend an orientation session prior to start day
  • Be prepared to wear all the required personal protective equipment while assisting teams on site

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mark attendance and departure
  • Provide necessary safety instructions and equipment
  • Distribute construction hats, shoes, tool belts, PPE equipment
  • Take pictures of crew on-site
  • Other duties as required

 

Qualifications

  • Assist in providing a safe and healthy working environment
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with staff members and volunteers
  • A positive attitude, enthusiasm, and friendly
  • Understanding of the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and the desire to promote it

Photography/Videography (Experience Required)

As a member of the Habitat Photography/ Videography team, you will be responsible for capturing designated photos either at an event or on the build site as outlined by the Volunteer Coordinator.

 

This Volunteer Position Involves: 

  • Capture and record events with camera/video camera (Using your own camera)
  • Make sequence shots and other relevant shots
  • Prepare a series of questions ready for each event if conducting interview
  • Edit video and add effects
  • Provide video or pictures to the office immediately following the event

Time Commitment:  Project based/as needed - 3-5 hours per month - min 1 year commitment

Qualifications/Experience Necessary: 

  • Prior photography experience Proven competency within the field and a review of the portfolio is required
  • Able and willing to follow Habitat for Humanity’s branding guidelines
  • Able to meet frequent tight deadlines
  • Proficient with video editing software 
  • flexible schedule are musts for this position
  • College educated graduate with two years’ experience in the industry is preferred

Please note: For this position you will be expected to meet with the Volunteer Coordinator in order to establish photography needs. This will require a short meeting at the main office in London. Crew Leader (London only, additional training req)

The Construction Crew Leader acts as the liaison between the Site Supervisor (and/or the Construction Manager) and the volunteers on site. It is the Crew Leader’s role to convey instructions and provide mentorship to the volunteers during Habitat Build Days.

Position requires a handy individual with some knowledge in construction/ renovations/trades, flexibility and full-day commitment.

Build days typically run from 8:00am until 3:00pm and are generally held 6 times a month

Community Outreach

Act as a Habitat Ambassador at Community/Recruitment events including trade shows, trade fairs, volunteer fairs, speaking engagements, etc. This may include some evenings and weekends and is a great opportunity for those that love to shine at public events to spread the word about Habitat, what we do and encourage others to get involved also!

Time Commitment: Sporadic as events are booked/1 year commitment

*The location, and type of opportunity will vary.

Qualifications/Experience Necessary: 

  • Great at public speaking
  • Knowledge of Habitat for Humanity (mission, vision, volunteer opportunities, corporate opportunities, family model)
  • Ability to travel to events independently/own means of transportation

Special Events

Special Event Volunteers are asked to join us in the community to help with our fundraiser events. The time commitment, location, and type of opportunity will vary.

Task can include:

  • Set-up/take down
  • Greet and direct customers
  • Help us sell 50/50 tickets and
  • Assist with advertising the community

Deconstruction and Salvage Crew (References Required)

This hands-on team goes into homes in the local neighborhood to dismantle and remove entire kitchens, doors, windows, bathroom fixtures and more from customers’ homes to sell in our ReStores.

 Main responsibilities:

  • Disassemble items such as cabinetry, doors, windows, plumbing fixtures, and HVAC etc.
  • Assist with loading and unloading salvage items to restore truck and warehouse for further processing and or sale
  • Be courteous, respectful and professional to both the customer and your fellow volunteers

 Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs
  • Own means of transportation to salvage locations
  • Ability to dis-assemble donated items (Kitchens)
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas – general handy person, construction knowledge, familiarity with construction and household products and fixtures.

 

Additional Screening: As this position involves entering private homes of the general public we do require 2 references

Location: Within Affiliate Region 

Time Commitment: Minimum 4 hour shift (mornings). Available on short notice. More hours of service may be requested to complete project in short time frame.

Hospitality Volunteer (London Only)

The dedicated volunteers and the families who are working on their homes enjoy a meal together during large volunteer days on the Habitat build site. As volunteers and families work together and eat together, community grows, neighbors are engaged in the lives of others, and volunteers are given lunch as meaningful thank you for their work.

These lunches can only be provided through the helpful contributions of churches, community groups and community-minded businesses. Lunch Providers purchase, prepare and serve volunteers. The food must be prepared ahead of time and enough for all volunteers. (This number will be provided when you sign up and confirmed 2 weeks before the date) Lunch providers must arrive at 11:30 to set up and of course, are welcome to join in on the meal.
