Volunteers In Public Schools / East Baton Rouge Parish School System

How do our programs work?

1. We recruit, train, and screen volunteers.

2. Teachers identify students who are one to two grade levels behind in reading or math.

3. Once trained and screened, you select the student you wish to tutor based on your availability.

  • EveryBody Reads and EveryOne Counts volunteer hours are performed during the regular school day (8:45 am- 2:30pm).
  • Teaching experience is not required to be a successful Reading or Math Friend. All that is needed is a commitment of time, a love of reading and a willingness to impact the life of a child by fostering a love of reading.

Our EveryBody Reads Program is offered at selected East Baton Rouge Parish Elementary Schools and our EveryOne Counts program is offered at East Baton Rouge Parish Elementary Schools.

Last year, over 700 students who were recommended to our EveryBody Reads program went without the assistance of a Reading Friend volunteer, falling further behind. The need is a great. Will you help us make a difference where it matters most today?
