What is the Care Corps?

A team of compassionate students and adults who want to make a positive and personal difference in the lives of neighbors in need.

Current Volunteer & Internship Opportunities

Pregnancy and Parenting

Make a difference in the life of a struggling young family! Volunteers will meet one-on-one with pregnant moms and new parents, providing emotional support and tangible items to help with the baby's needs. Not an expert on raising kids? No problem! We'll provide all necessary training. 

State and federal clearances are required.

Must be 18 or older. 

Safety Net & Homeless Outreach

Provide help and encouragement to those without safe housing or financial stability!  Volunteers typically serve at our county offices and work with new clients. Volunteers can also choose to serve at our St. Joseph House of Hospitality, a transitional housing facility located in the Hill District of Pittsburgh.

County office volunteering activities include:

  • Greeting clients and answering questions about services
  • Conducting client intakes
  • Organizing and distributing clothing and food donations

St. Joe's volunteering activities include:

  • Cooking and serving meals to the residents
  • Hosting Bingo nights, tailgate parties, and other fun group activities
  • Painting, landscaping, and other building improvement projects

State clearances are required for county office volunteering. 

Administrative Volunteering

Make a difference behind the scenes! Admin volunteers use their skills in organization, donor relations, social media, sales, finance, and technology to support our daily mission. From general office support to donation drives, the opportunities to serve are endless!

State clearances may be required based on role. Inquire for details.

Special Events Team

Want to get involved, but don't have time during the work week? Join our Special Events Team and help us make a difference through our community outreach events and fundraisers! 

Events include:

  • Bluegrass Festival (concert benefiting our homelessness program, held in April)
  • Bishop's Dinner (black tie gala, held in May)
  • Jessie Games (family fun carnival for case management clients, held in July)
  • Golf Outing (benefiting our Free Health Care Center, held in September)
  • Hearts to Soles (shoe distribution event in downtown PGH, held in November)
  • Family Christmas Party (for case management clients, held in December)

Group Volunteering

We have regular volunteering opportunities for groups of fewer than 10. For larger groups, or for groups involving minors, please call 412.456.6986 for more information. 

Social Work Internships

Hands-on, direct service internships are available in the following counties: Allegheny, Butler, Greene, Lawrence, and Washington.

Students will have the opportunity to work with clients in programs such as:

  • Pregnancy and parenting support
  • Transitional housing and homelessness
  • Case management and basic needs assistance

Field instructors possess MSW or LCSW certifications. State and federal clearances are required.

Counseling Internships

We offer practicum and internship placements in our Beaver, Washington, and Greene County offices. All supervisors are licensed professional counselors or licensed psychologists. 

Students will have opportunities to experience a variety of therapeutic settings, including:

  • Psychotherapy
  • Psychoeducation
  • Supportive counseling
  • Groups

Nonprofit Management Internships
