Shoreline Library Summer Meals Volunteer

Location: Shoreline Library

Schedule: June 22- Aug 21 12:30pm-1:30pm, M-F (10 weeks total)  

Open Positions: 2 per day  

Description: Become a Summer Meals volunteer for KCLS! Help serve meals to kids and families all summer long. Join a KCLS staff member as they distribute meals at different library meal sites. This position requires a temporary summer weekly commitment for 8-10 weeks, if possible.

  • Food Preparation & Service: Assist with unpacking and distributing nutritious meals according to food safety guidelines. Ability to serve foods that may contain food allergens. Please alert program lead of any severe allergies you may have.

  • Site Setup & Cleanup: Set up tables, chairs, and serving stations before the meal, and wipe down surfaces, sweep, and sanitize after service.

  • Pre/Post Meals Activity Support: Help with simple crafts or assist with literacy activities led by local staff. Engage in library promotions or events.

  • Data Tracking: Keep accurate daily records of the number of meals served.

  • Community Building: Create a welcoming, safe, and positive environment for children and their families.

Qualifications

  • 18 years or older
  • Person fluent or proficient in English
  • Reliability & Flexibility: Ability to commit to a consistent schedule and adapt to changing daily meal counts.
  • Physical Stamina: Capacity to stand for extended periods and comfortably lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Food Safety: Willingness to learn or possess knowledge of basic kitchen hygiene and safe food handling and have a current Food Worker Card (available online at www.foodworkercard.wa.gov for $10, cost reimbursed by KCLS)
  • Background Check: Pass a standard background check.
