Objective:

Exercise and socialize shelter dogs to enhance their quality of life.

Duties:

• Walk dogs or take them out in the yard
• Pick up poop while outdoors and inside their kennels as needed
• Socialize dogs inside during inclement weather
• Mop kennels and interaction rooms as needed
• Observe and report behavioral or medical changes to staff

Qualifications:

• Previous experience handling dogs- professional or personal
• Basic understanding of and ability to read canine body language
• Must be able to take direction from staff regarding proper handling and shelter protocols

Time Requirements:

• Must be able to commit to a regularly weekly shift of 2 hours for a minimum of 6 months.

Other Requirements:

• Must be willing to fulfill volunteer responsibilities regardless of rain, snow, or heat
• Must be able to bend, squat, and safely handle dogs of varying sizes and strengths
• Must be willing to complete ongoing training regarding animal behavior and safe animal handling.

Important:

• This role is not available to those who need to complete required community service hours.  Community service volunteers may opt to stay on after their hours are complete and apply for this role at that time only.

Objective:

Provide on-site tours and presentations to groups of various ages and sizes in order to educate the community on topics related to Animal Welfare.

Duties:

• Lead or assist another volunteer with group presentations
• Lead or assist another volunteer with group tours of the adoption center

Qualifications:

• Good communication and public speaking skills
• Effective time management skills

Time Requirement:

• This position is as needed.  Tours/presentations last 45 minutes-1 hour and take place any day of the week between 1-3pm.
