Become a Libraries and Galleries Volunteer

Western Downs Libraries

Volunteering at Western Downs Libraries is a life-enriching, rewarding experience. Volunteers work side-by-side with Council employees to strengthen customer service and programs and enhance the Library’s relationship with the local community. There are many opportunities to suit different interests and skills; we need and appreciate help with all manner of Library tasks.

Library Services volunteers may assist with a variety of tasks; whether you enjoy being hands-on with books, creating displays, or interacting with our customers, there's a role for you.

  • Assisting with displays
  • Selecting and delivering items for Housebound clients
  • Assisting with and processing of books and materials
  • Shelving and shelf checking
  • Assisting with youth programs and activities
  • Tidying and cleaning collection areas
  • Assisting with preparation for events and activities
  • Meeting and greeting Library visitors

Library Services volunteers working with children will require a Working with Children Blue Card. If you don’t already have one, WDRC can help you to apply for one free of charge.

Dogwood Crossing, Miles

Becoming a Gallery volunteer is a fulfilling and rewarding way to help your community. Volunteering provides an opportunity to socialise with other volunteers and use your experience, skills and knowledge for the benefit of the community.  The opportunity to work alongside exhibiting Artists and other external Gallery professionals extends volunteers knowledge and interest.  Dogwood Crossing is a unique facility housing an Art Gallery, Library and local history information.

Gallery volunteers may assist with a variety of tasks such as:

  • Assist with Art Gallery exhibition demounts and installs
  • Assist with Gallery opening functions
  • Assist with delivering Centre Public Programs such as Author talks and children's programs
  • Assist with the planning of exhibition programming as a member of the Art Gallery Advisory Committee
  • Assisting with general duties within Dogwood Crossing including stocktake of Art on Consignment, painting and small construction projects
