Urgent Need- Shelter Program Assistant

An in-person opportunity to BE present  and provide community connection to vulnerable adults who are trying to get their lives back on track. Whether handing a resident a sack lunch on their way out the door in the morning, handing out supplies, or greeting residents as they return from job hunting or a day at work, you will be a vital human connection for residents.

The focus is on providing a clean and organized space to free up shelter staff to conduct their mission. By assisting in the Resident’s check-in/out process and attending to details of a safe clean environment, volunteers contribute to shelter residents’ well-being.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  1. Monitor residents as they check-in and out of the Shelter program.
  2. Assist with communication and directions when visitors enter the Shelter.
  3. Clean and organize the Check-In and Office areas.

                4.  Participate and successfully complete all required trainings A New Leaf deems necessary

                5.  Maintain standards of confidentiality and professionalism at all times

                6.  Adhere to codes of conduct and standards as specified in Volunteer Handbook

                7.  Additional tasks may be requested as per program needs



• Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card

• Must be able to follow directions & maintain consistent reliable attendance

• Good organizational and communication skills

• Ability to work around diverse population in a culturally sensitive, non-judgmental manner




Minimum 4 hours per week. Various shifts available including evenings & weekends

Minimum 6-month commitment requested.
