Horse Handler - Unmounted Horsemanship
The horse handler’s primary role is to monitor and position the horse to allow the participant to get the most from the class. Hold the lead rope with two hands at all times, folding the end of the lead rather than wrapping it around your hand, for safety. Avoid putting pressure on the lead unless you are signaling the horse to move or change something he is doing. During halted activities, stand at the horse’s head, facing him. Square the horse so he is standing with all his feet directly under his body. Keep him still for safety and to allow the participant to focus on his or her tasks.
