Goal of the Position
The Java Music club program is a research-based support activity group designed for residential care. The program is designed to have easy step-by-step instructions for facilitation with a focus on peer support. Volunteers will support Program Facilitator Staff to facilitate a weekly or biweekly Java Music program to increase social interaction and peer to peer support for the residents.
Time commitment
Volunteers will be asked to commit to a weekly 1.5 hour shifts for a specific day/time.
Opportunities for morning 9:30-11:30 or afternoon between 1pm-2:30 or 2:15-3:45

Benefit to Volunteer
- Experience supporting those living with dementia and other cognitive/ physical decline.
- Experience facilitating a reminiscing-based conversation.
Duties
- Support with program set up including gathering supplies and organization of space (rearranging furniture for maximum resident benefit)
- Engage in meaningful conversations with residents during the program relating to the theme/topic.
- Provide encouragement to residents related to program participation.
- Facilitate the Java Music Program as shown in the training.
Qualifications
- Fluency in English required, Intermediate skills in other language considered in asset.
- Prior experience supporting older adults, specifically those living with dementia and other cognitive/physical decline is considered an asset.
