Goal of the Position
With Rendever's Virtual Reality program designed for older adults, residents simply put on a headset, and they’re immediately transported into a magical immersive experience together. The residents can travel to all corners of the world, checking off bucket list items and learning about new cultures. Volunteers will support the facilitation of a small group or 1:1 session with residents exploring different aspects of the VR programming which include videos, activity guides, games, trivia, meditation, and sensory stimulation.
Time commitment
Volunteers will be asked to commit to a weekly or biweekly in some cases 1.5-2 hour shifts for a specific day/time.
Opportunities for morning 9:30-11:30 or afternoon between 1pm-4pm (a set time range for the afternoon within these 3 hours)
only one volunteer per day/time frame
Benefit to Volunteer
- Experience supporting those living with dementia and other cognitive/ physical decline.
- Experience with Virtual Reality Technology as a therapeutic approach to reminiscing for older adults.
Duties
- Support with program set up including gathering supplies and organization of space (rearranging furniture for maximum resident benefit)
- Engage in meaningful conversations with residents during the program relating to the theme/topic. Utilizing the prompts from the VR equipment.
- Provide encouragement to residents related to program participation.
- Facilitate the Virtual Reality Program as shown in the training.
Qualifications
- Fluency in English required, Intermediate skills in other language considered in asset.
- Understanding of Virtual Reality concept and knowledge of tablet technology and functioning is considered an asset.
