Goal of the position

Every resident will be provided with excellent individualized, caring, respectful and homelike service during every meal. This includes setting a relaxed and supportive dining environment, providing residents choices and socialization with residents throughout the meal experience. Volunteers will support residents during their meal to ensure that all residents are provided a homelike service during the meal.

Time Commitment

Successful applicants will be required to attend at least one shift weekly and will be assigned a set day/ mealtime for their volunteer commitment. Each shift requires a commitment of 1.5 hours. Shift days will be prioritized for those who complete the application process first. Training shifts may take place on days different than assigned shift days to accommodate schedules.

Benefit to Volunteer

  • Experience supporting those living with dementia and other cognitive/ physical decline.
  • Experience facilitating a reminiscing-based conversation.
  • Experience facilitating a meal service for 30 individuals in an organized manner.

Duties

  • Escort residents to and from dining room space, this will include supporting residents utilizing wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
  • Support in meal set up and creating an enjoyable atmosphere for the meal services. This will include facilitating conversations during the meal, set up of environmental features such as aromatherapy devices and more.
  • Support residents to physically enjoy their meals (training will be provided)
  • Support in activity set up post meal such as returning recreation activities such as puzzles and books to table space for residents to enjoy.
  • Support with clean up of meal space; clearing tables, sorting dishes on dish cart for staff to wash
