Goal of the Position
The Glebe Centre works to create an enriched environment for all residents in their care. Volunteers will guide residents living with middle to late stage dementia through a 1 to 1, 15-30 minute Snoezelen session for cognitive stimulation and enrichment.
Time commitment
Volunteers will be asked to commit to a weekly 2.5 hour shifts for a specific day/time.
Opportunities for morning 9:30-11:30 or afternoon between 1pm-3:30pm
A variety of days - limited weekend availability. Training to be completed during a week day
Benefit to Volunteer
- Experience providing meaningful support and companionship to people living with middle to late-stage dementia and other cognitive impairments.
- Experience with documentation and record keeping in a healthcare setting.
- Training and experience in facilitation of Snoezelen Therapy.
Duties
- Review documentation prior to each session for assigned residents including resident profiles and previous session evaluations.
- Set up Snoezelen room for each resident’s session with a focus on sanitization of any touch surfaces.
- Guide 15–30-minute Snoezelen session for assigned resident following appropriate session progression as outlined in training.
- Complete post-session documentation including activity participation, sign in sheet and session evaluation.
Qualifications
- Fluency in English required, Intermediate skills in other language considered in asset.
- Prior experience supporting older adults, specifically those living with dementia and other cognitive/physical decline is considered an asset.
