Goal of the position

Music connects all people across generations, languages, and cultures. Volunteers will share their musical talents with our residents in medium sized groups on an assigned home area for a 1 hour performance.

Time Commitment

Successful applicants will be asked to commit at minimum to a 1-hour biweekly performance of music for residents.  

Additional opportunities available to increase shift frequency and duration.

Benefit to Volunteer

  • Experience performing for an audience.
  • Experience supporting older adults living with cognitive/physical decline.

Duties

  • Plan out a 1 hour song list for the performance with a focus on instrumental music. If volunteer is interested in singing and playing an instrument songs performed are requested to be family appropriate with most benefit being on songs from prior to 1990.
  • Arrive on time to the assigned home area checking in with the program facilitator.
  • Play music for 1 hour for our residents

Qualifications

  • Fluency in English required, Intermediate skills in other language considered in asset.
  • Intermediate proficiency playing music and/or singing is required.
    • Volunteer applicants will be asked to perform 1-2 songs during their interview.

Notes

We do our best to provide a positive environment for our volunteers especially related to roles that put volunteers in the spot light such as musical performances. Due to the nature of our residents we can not guarantee that negative comments related to performance/song choice will not be received though staff will remove a resident from the space if negative comments occur.
