Volunteer with A Safe Place

The Donation Support and New Beginnings volunteers will work at either Village Center or onsite at the shelter, organizing donations and preparing New Beginnings packages.

The Grocery/Donation Pickup volunteer will assist staff with picking up groceries, donations and other items from different locations.  They will focus on transporting items to and from the shelter and putting them in the correct areas for the donation/facilities teams to put away.

Depending on the scheduled shift, Kitchen Support volunteers, will assist facilities staff with meal preparation. They will focus on preparing and serving meals, followed by doing the dishes and cleaning up the kitchen. The Kitchen Support Volunteer will assist with scheduled kitchen cleaning, replenishing kitchen supplies, cleaning appliances and other relate duties as required. The Kitchen Support volunteer may also assist in preparing baked goods to be used for easy breakfast grab-n-go/freezable items (pancakes/muffins/cinnamon buns/scones, etc.) Plan items to bake in advance, and inform facilities staff of the supplies needed in preparation of grocery shopping. 

Supervised by the Child & Youth Support Program (CYSP) Team Lead, or staff, volunteers will exercise compassionate, non-judgmental, and trauma-informed care, while spending time with children and youth, accessing supports at A Safe Place.

Volunteers will model healthy relationships, and support age-appropriate learning and socialization, while engaged in activities and care.

Opportunity to share/lead special interests, hobbies, and activities with children/youth in shelter setting.

Volunteers may support our fundraising and event initiatives throughout the year. For example, in preparation of the annual golf tournament, the spring raffle, or during the holiday season for the Tree of Hope campaign.

Volunteers in this role may be needed episodically to support administrative needs in the village office location. 

The Facilities & Maintenance Support volunteers will assist with various maintenance repair needs, building/assembling furniture and shelves, gardening, etc. The Facilities staff will provide training, guidance, supervision, support and ensure that all volunteers adhere to all safety regulations.
