Become a Volunteer

 

The Nova Scotia Guard has a role for everyone! Register with the Guard to support your community in times of a disaster and/or emergency.

Although every emergency is different, responsibilities and support may include:

  • Cleaning up debris
  • Distributing food
  • Transporting supplies & equipment
  • Supporting emergency shelters and comfort centres
  • Shovelling snow 
  • Supporting first response groups

Eligibility

To become an active member of the Nova Scotia Guard (eligible for deployment), you must meet the following requirements: 

  • You are a resident of Nova Scotia
  • If you are 18 years or older, you have completed an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) at no cost to you 
  • If you are under 19 years old, you have consent from your parent or your legal guardian to volunteer
  • You have completed the online Nova Scotia Guard orientation course
