Become a Volunteer
The Nova Scotia Guard has a role for everyone! Register with the Guard to support your community in times of a disaster and/or emergency.
Although every emergency is different, responsibilities and support may include:
- Cleaning up debris
- Distributing food
- Transporting supplies & equipment
- Supporting emergency shelters and comfort centres
- Shovelling snow
- Supporting first response groups

Eligibility
To become an active member of the Nova Scotia Guard (eligible for deployment), you must meet the following requirements:
- You are a resident of Nova Scotia
- If you are 18 years or older, you have completed an Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) at no cost to you
- If you are under 19 years old, you have consent from your parent or your legal guardian to volunteer
- You have completed the online Nova Scotia Guard orientation course
