Volunteer Opportunities with the Community Resources Team Include:

 

Pet Resource Desk Assistant - Volunteers support the Community Resource operations of the shelter by answering phones, running lost/found reports, and greeting visitors. In addition, volunteers provide assistance to Pet Pantry clients, receive donations, assist fosters, and support staff in receiving surrenders, strays, and wildlife. Spanish speakers are especially appreciated in this role

Shifts scheduled: Tues - Fri between 12pm - 5pm

 

Pet Pantry -  AWLA’s Pet Pantry is designed to keep pets with their families by providing pet care essentials including food, litter, and supplies. Residents of Arlington County and Falls Church City may pick up items at the shelter Animal Services desk during regular business hours, no questions asked. Volunteers are needed to sort donations and prep 4lb bags of food to give out to the community. Open to teens

Shifts scheduled: Mon from 1 to 3pm, Wednesday from 9 to 11am, Thurs from 12 to 2pm, Sun from 11 to 1pm

 

Pet Pantry Delivery -  For those physically unable to pick-up from our Pet Pantry, AWLA offers a delivery service. Volunteers will support the Pet Pantry by delivering packaged pet food and supplies to residents of Arlington County.

Shifts scheduled: first (1st) Friday of each month from 9 to 11am.

 

Vaccine & Microchip Clinic Assistant - In addition to finding families for homeless pets, AWLA works hard to keep owned-pets happy, healthy, and safe with their people. We do this by offering affordable vaccinations and microchips. Vaccine & Microchip Clinics are held once a month at AWLA. The clinic assistant role works directly with members of the public and their super cute pets! Spanish speakers especially needed.

Shifts scheduled: once a month on Sat from 8:30am to 12:30pm

 

Teen Clinic Aid - This role is designed to give specific shifts to our teen volunteers. Teen Clinic Aid volunteers assist staff in setting up, running, and cleaning up for our monthly Low Cost Vaccine & Microchip Clinics.

Shifts scheduled: once a month on Sat from 8:30am to 12:30pm

 

Community Resources Assistant - Volunteers help the Pet Resource Desk staff prepare for the day ahead by trying up the lobby, sorting donations, and prepping the pet pantry cart. Open to teens

Shifts scheduled: Tues - Sat from 11am to 12pm

 

Mobile pet Resources Assistant - In addition to finding families for homeless pets, AWLA works hard to keep owned-pets happy, healthy, and safe with their people. We do this by partnering with human support service providers in the communities where the need is the greatest. During these events, AWLA offers pet food and supplies on a regular basis to ensure that the needs of the whole family are met. Spanish speakers are especially needed in this role

Shifts are generally scheduled mornings, evenings, weekdays, and weekends 

 

Community Care Clinic Assistant - In addition to finding families for homeless pets, AWLA works hard to keep owned-pets happy, healthy, and safe with their people. We do this by providing free vaccinations and microchips, preventatives, hands on exams, and grooming. Community Care Clinics are held once a quarter off-site in a high needs community. The clinic assistant role works directly with members of the public and their super cute pets! Spanish speakers especially needed.

Shifts scheduled: one Saturday a quarter from 8:30am to 12:30pm
