Volunteer Opportunities with Behavior & Enrichment include:
SCA Enrichment - Volunteers provide enrichment and socialization for Small Companion Animals (SCAs) by giving them time outside the kennel to run and jump as well as providing enrichment toys and treats. Open to teens.
Shifts scheduled: Mon between 12 - 6pm, Sat/Sun from 4 to 6pm
Cat Enrichment - Volunteers provide enrichment and socialization for our resident cats in their kennel space through play and games, petting, treats, or just some quiet company.
Shifts scheduled: Mon between 12 - 6pm, Sat/Sun from 4 to 6pm
Dog In Kennel Enrichment -Volunteers provide enrichment and destressing techniques to the dogs in the kennels by making and distributing enrichment items and playing clickers games from outside of the kennel. There is no direct interaction with the dogs. Open to teens.
Shifts scheduled: everyday from 12 to 2pm and 6 to 8pm
Dog Walking - This program is designed to give dogs a chance to expend excess energy and reduce barking, repetitive behaviors and other negative activities that might result from being in a kennel environment, thus increasing adoptability. Dog walking in the community also increases the animal’s exposure to potential adopters. Dog Walkers may also be asked to participate in community events in other locations where the transport and handling of shelter dogs is needed.
Shifts scheduled: everyday between 9am - 9pm
Paws & Music with Wild Tunes - Volunteers in this role provide enrichment and stress relief for animals waiting for a home through live music. Volunteers will set up in the kennel rooms (Dog, Cat, or SCA) with their instrument and play live music to promote a calming environment for the animals to relax. Volunteer Paws & Music shifts are available when we are closed, however volunteers are also invited to sign up for public shifts if it best fits their schedule. Open to teens.
Shifts scheduled: Sat/Sun from 4 to 5pm; public shifts Tues-Fri between 3 - 6pm, Sat/Sun between 2 - 3pm
Dog Social Enrichment & Playgroup - As a Dog Social Enrichment Volunteer you will be vital in ensuring our dogs get their zoomies out every day. Volunteers take dogs out for focused one-on-one enrichment and training time in the dog yards providing them with valuable social interaction and tailored sensory experiences. With additional training you will be approved to oversee playgroups for our shelter dogs, facilitating supervised play sessions for dogs that enjoy spending time with their furry friends, as recommended by the Behavior Department.
Shifts scheduled: everyday from 9am to 12pm and 3 to 5pm
