Stop Smoking Champion

Role title: Stop Smoking Champion

Sites: Mosques across Barking and Dagenham                    

Responsible to: Nasim Chowdhury (Tobacco Dependence Advisor)                 

Role purpose:

We are looking for enthusiastic Stop Smoking Champions to help improve the health and wellbeing of residents across Barking & Dagenham.

As a Stop Smoking Champion, you’ll play an important role in encouraging people who smoke to access free stop smoking support, raising awareness within your local community, and helping individuals take the first step towards a healthier, smoke-free life.

Full training will be provided, and you’ll work alongside the Tobacco Dependence Advisor as part of a wider community health initiative.

Main activities:

• Promote the free Stop Smoking Service within mosques and the wider local community.
• Engage with residents and start positive conversations about the benefits of stopping smoking.
• Support residents to access stop smoking support via the local stop smoking team.

• Help identify opportunities to reach people who may benefit from stop smoking support in the future.

• NCSCT Very Brief Advice Training

We will provide you with training and support for this role using the council’s iLearn training system. Courses include:

• General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
• Customer care
• Health, safety and wellbeing awareness
• Equalities and diversity
• Safeguarding adults

Further training opportunities may become available.

We will also provide you with a reference after three months volunteering.
