Summer Reading Challenge Volunteer
Opportunities in Barking & Dagenham
We are looking for enthusiastic Summer Reading Challenge Volunteers who can buddy with children in the library over the summer holidays July 2026 - September 2026 to help them complete the Summer Reading Challenge and support with craft activities.
Volunteers can be of any age but ideally 15 yrs and older with lots of energy, enthusiasm and willingness to be a part of a bigger team.
Who: Anyone over the age of 15
Where: Barking & Dagenham Libraries
When: Flexible times throughout the week including weekends
Commitment: At least once per week over the summer holidays July - September 2026
Skills Required:
- Have a passion for reading, literacy and enjoy being in a library setting
- Excellent communication skills, be able to talk to people of all backgrounds and walks of life and willing to buddy with children to help them choose, find or read books
- Be able to follow instructions, complete basic training, and work as part of a team
- Be willing to lean how a library operates and complete basic tasks in that area
- Reliable, punctual and have good customer skills
This opportunity is ideal for students and young people who are looking to build skills over the summer holidays.
