Mayoral Volunteers
Role Purpose:
His Worshipful the Mayor of Barking and Dagenham is seeking volunteers to help raise awareness of and money for his nominated charities for the year 2026 – 2027, Adanna Women’s Support Group and Prostate Cancer UK.
- Adanna Women’s Support Group is a community organisation that supports Black, Asian and Multi-Ethnic women across the Borough of Barking and Dagenham and Iford facing issues such as violence, unemployment and isolation.
- Prostate Cancer UK raises awareness of prostate cancer risk, provides expert information and funds research for better treatment.
Volunteers will play a key role in developing a calendar of fundraising events and organising them to maximise income for these important causes.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with other volunteers to brainstorm and organise fundraising activities.
- Working with other volunteers, lead on organising Mayoral charity events. This is likely to include volunteering some ad hoc evenings and weekends and could involve:
- Supporting the smooth running of events
- Collecting tickets and entrance fees
- Running raffles and tombolas
- Setting up an event i.e. decorations
- Distributing food and refreshments (where required)
- Attend and support annual charity bucket collections at Dagenham & Redbridge Football Club
- Support cash management at fundraising events, ensuring accuracy and accountability
Requirements & Skills
- Strong organisation and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Confidence interacting with a diverse range of people
- Local knowledge or community contacts (desirable)
- Willingness to volunteer at events during evenings and weekends
Additional Requirements
- DBS Check required (which the council will organise)
- Complete training on i-Learn, the council’s training platform
- Comfortable handling cash
- Ability to engage appropriately with vulnerable individuals
