Nest Box Monitoring - Nest Box Monitoring at Cottonwood Street Bushland Conservation Reserve, Mudjimba

Citizen Science activity: Monitor nest boxes at Cottonwood St Bushland Conservation Reserve* and help record observations of wildlife use, nest box conditions, and environmental information!

Information on the meeting location, how to get ready for the activity, and extra details will be sent to you a few days prior to activity. Please note that the activity is weather dependent, you will be informed if the activity is canceled and rescheduled.

You will need to wear appropriate protective personal equipment, including a long sleeve shirt, long pants, and enclosed outdoor shoes. You will also need to bring your water bottle and any essential items with you that may personally require (e.g., glasses). Sunscreen and insect repellent will be available on-site. 

There are several roles that volunteers will share during an activity, including:

  • Handling of the camera and pole,
  • Handling of the LCD-12 monitor screen,
  • Handling of the tape measurer, and
  • Recording information on data sheets or through Survey123.

Bringing your own binoculars is encouraged. 

*The nest boxes in this reserve have been installed, maintained, and audited by Coolum & North Shore Coast Care for more than 20 years. Their work in this space has been amazing and many volunteers have also looked after the condition of the bushland that supports local wildlife.
