Nest Box Monitoring - Nest Box Monitoring at Maroochy Bushland Botanic Gardens, Tanawha
Monitor nest boxes at Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Gardens for this citizen science activity and help record observations of wildlife use, nest conditions, and environmental information!
You will meet a volunteer activity coordinator (Bob Ducrou) near the parking lot to go over the site risks and control measures, and be trained on how to safely monitor nest boxes.
The monitoring will be conducted along walking trails but, in some areas, walking a few meters away from a trail may be required. There are several roles or tasks that participants will do and they include:
- Handling of the camera and pole,
- Handling of the LCD-12 monitor screen,
- Handling of the tape measurer, and
- Recording information on data sheets or through Survey123.
You will need to wear appropriate protective personal equipment, including a long sleeve shirt, long pants, enclosed outdoor shoes, and a hat. You will also need to bring your water bottle and any essential items with you that may personally require (e.g., glasses). Sunscreen and insect repellent will be available on-site.
Information on the meeting location for this site will be sent to you a few days prior the activity.
