ClimateWatch Trail Guided Walk - ClimateWatch Trail Guided Walk - Currimundi Lake
Join the Currimundi Catchment Care Group for this citizen science activity and help record observations of key indicator species at Currimundi Lake.
Life thrives in the five reserves around Currimundi Lake. Crummunda Park, Frank McIvor Bushland Park, Cliff Hargreaves Park and Watson Street Foreshore Reserve managed by Sunshine Coast Council and Currimundi Lake (Kathleen McArthur) Conservation Park managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Partnerships have three main habitat types - melaleuca wetlands, eucalypt woodlands and patches of littoral rainforest. You’ll see the coastal banksia, silky oak and you might catch the flower of the Black-anther flax lilly. You may also get to see different butterfly species, the Rainbow Bee-eater, Australian Water Dragon and the majestic Brahminy Kite.
Currimunid Lake is the site of a ClimateWatch trail. ClimateWatch is a citizen science project that aims to record how changes in temperature and rainfall are affecting the seasonal behaviour of Australia's plants and animals. Our Currimundi Catchment Care Group guide will assist you to identify indicator species and to use the ClimateWatch App so you can contribute to this important project.
We recommend downloading the free app prior to arrival. Please register for an account and remember your login details. (See download instructions below.) If you would like assistance to download the app, please arrive at 8.45am.
