Nest Box Monitoring - Nest Box Monitoring at Noel Burns Park, Crummunda Park and Sunjewel Boulevard Reserve, Wurtulla
Monitor nest boxes at three sites around Currimundi lake for this citizen science activity and help record observations of wildlife use, nest conditions, and environmental information! This site has many nest boxes and will require travelling by car between sites. Carpooling is strongly encouraged.
An email with On the day details, including meeting time and location, will be sent to you a few days before the activity day.
You will meet the activity coordinator, a community volunteer, at an agreed meeting location and you will be inducted for safety, learn about site risks and control measures, and be trained on how to safely monitor nest boxes.
There are several roles or tasks that participants will share during the activity and they include:
- Handling of the camera and pole,
- Handling of the LCD-12 monitor screen,
- Handling of the tape measurer, and
- Recording information on the Ipad.
You will need to wear appropriate protective personal equipment, including a long sleeve shirt, long pants, enclosed outdoor shoes, and a hat. You will also need to bring your water bottle and any essential items with you that may personally require (e.g., glasses). Sunscreen and insect repellent will be available on-site.
