Volunteer Role Description

Role Title:

When:

Whenever suits you

Commitment:

As much or as little as you like. A couple of hours a week or fortnight is suggested.

Duration:

The duration of the project is 3 months.

Requirements:

You will read from digitally photographed historic records relating to the historic spa complex in Bath, including a visitor book. Then you will accurately transcribe the text and input it into the provided spreadsheet.

What’s In It For You:

You have an exciting opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the Roman Baths Museum and our historic spa collection, helping make our collection accessible to the public.

You will be immersed in history and discover more about the health and wellbeing of the people who visited the historic spa complex.

You will gain valuable experience in reading old handwriting. You will be provided with any relevant training, e.g. top tips for reading old handwriting.

All transcription will be checked and confirmed, so you won’t be working in isolation. You will be supported by the Volunteer Manager and Collections Assistant.

We will be able to provide you with a reference on request.

You will join a wider team of volunteers in Heritage Services, and experience wider benefits including access to socials, training, and events.

What We Want From You:

You will need to be computer literate, have an eye for detail and a good level of accuracy. You will need to be self-motivated.

You will need a suitable device (tablet or computer) and access to the internet.

Notes:

Please be aware that reading about people’s experience with health treatments may affect mental health and we recommend you ensure the role is not negatively affecting you. Support is available via our Volunteer Manager.
