The Mirabel Foundation's Programs

The Mirabel Foundation supports children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use and are now living in kinship care (with extended family).

The child is central to Mirabel's organisational structure. All of Mirabel's programs and services are built around the needs of the child, their kinship carers and their community. Mirabel supports children aged 0-17 years and works at restoring a child’s sense of self-worth, belonging and hope for the future in order for them to reach their full potential as young adults. Mirabel believes that investing in children is the most compassionate and economic investment we can make. Mirabel aims to help break the destructive cycle of drug use.

Mirabel provides advocacy, referral, research, practical and emotional assistance to the children and their kinship carers. We lead the way in providing a community response to these families and reducing the stigma and isolation they experience.  Our many and varied programs include:

  • Early Intervention
  • Recreation Program
  • Therapeutic Groups
  • Youth Support
  • Education
  • Family Camps & Events
  • Kinship Carer Support Groups
  • Volunteers
  • Social Awareness Programs

The Mirabel Foundation is driven by the simple, core belief that every child deserves a childhood.

Volunteering with The Mirabel Foundation

Volunteers are an important part of Mirabel’s recreation program. We could not run activities and programs without the support of committed volunteers. Introducing Mirabel children to enthusiastic, supportive and positive role models enables them to see what is possible for themselves.

When volunteering with Mirabel the three most important things the Mirabel children need from a volunteer is their time, energy and attention.

Mirabel volunteers come from all walks of life, and they are integral to our mission to help Mirabel children impacted by parental illicit drug use. Passionate, generous and committed, our volunteers are there to have fun and put smiles on faces.

We are recruiting volunteers for a range of programs and activities in both Victoria and New South Wales.

Volunteering with the Mirabel Foundation is an opportunity to:

  • Support the Mirabel children and families
  • Give back to the community
  • Give your time, energy and attention to children in need
  • Try new things
  • Meet like-minded people
  • Gain experience working with Mirabel children and families

Please note: Mirabel is unable to provide student placement opportunities

The success of Mirabel’s programs relies on the generosity of volunteers who give their time to assist at events, children’s camps and at the Mirabel office. All volunteers are required to complete a strict application process and must have an up-to-date Police and Working with Children Checks. Further information regarding Working with Children Checks can be found at http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au  for VIC applicants or https://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/for NSW applicants.

Ways to volunteer with Mirabel

Mirabel's Vision

The Mirabel Foundation supports children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use and are now living in kinship care (with extended family).

Mirabel currently supports over 1900 children in Victoria and NSW. Each week, seven new children are referred to Mirabel, The only organisation in Australia dedicated to helping these children.

Mirabel aims to help these vulnerable children reach their full potential as adults and break the destructive cycle of drug abuse.

Mirabel provides advocacy, referral, research, practical and emotional assistance to the children and their kinship carers. We lead the way in providing a community response to these families and reducing the stigma and isolation they experience.

The Mirabel Foundation is driven by the simple, core belief that every child deserves a childhood.

There are many ways you can support the work of Mirabel as a volunteer. Please complete the online volunteer expression of interest at the top of this page.
